Medication Managment

Your pain specialist may consider multiple types of medications as part of your treatment. In some cases, your pain specialist may institute a weaning or detoxification program from opioids.

Remember, your first visit is a consultation only, and the Southern Califronia Pain & Wellness Center does not automatically assume responsibility for your medications at that time. Every effort should be made to advise your referring physician of this policy.   We will, however, assume responsibility for all medication needs during particpating in this program, if requested.

Decisions about chronic opioid management require a significant amount of education, experience, and insight. This program typically requires a multidisciplinary evaluation of the patient, including a psychosocial assessment, prior to prescribing opioid or narcotic type medications.

Your pain specialist may also employ other medications, like anti-depressants and anti-inflammatory medications, as they can sometimes provide relief of certain symptoms with less concern of dependence, addiction, or other side effects.
