Spine Care

Comprehensive Spine Care

The Southern California Pain & Wellness Center offers a full complement of treatments for injuries, conditions, and diseases of the spine. This may include both acute problems as well as chronic disease. We understand the impact back and neck pain can have on the individual as well as the employer and society as a whole.

We offer the latest in state-of-the art non-operative treatments and technologies in the treatment of different disorders of the spine.  The goal of these treatments is to offer non-surgical alternatives to help restore function and normal body mechanics.

Physical rehabilitation and patient education are utilized to improve core stability and strength and minimize fear of movement and re-injury. The judicious use of interventional procedures and appropriate medications may be employed to help facilitate the recovery process.

Post Operative Spine Care

The Southern California Pain & Wellness Center has a long tradition of helping patients recover from multiple and complex spine surgeries.

In the first six months following surgery, we provide medication management, while your surgeon oversees the rest of your care and rehabilitation.

At the six-month mark, we conference with your surgeon to assess your progress. Pain medication may be tapered, or if progress is slower than anticipated, we institute more comprehensive care.

A consultation with one of our psychologists starts the process. A program of education, rehabilitation, behavioral management and continued medication management follows.

At the end of 12 months, your progress will again be re-evaluated. Those showing good progress will be tapered off their pain medications. For those still struggling with pain management, alternatives such as the Functional Restoration Program and the use of specialized spine implantable devices may be considered.

Interventional Spine Care

Most of our procedures are performed in custom-designed outpatient surgery centers geared toward providing our patients the highest level of service and expertise in pain management.

Southern California Pain & Wellness Center physicians are fellowship-trained and offer years of experience in performing specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the neck and back.

Our physicians will use these treatments to help guide patients' recovery and rehabilitation.

Southern California Pain & Wellness Center physicians perform a variety of interventional injections and surgeries, including:

Chronic Spine Care

The Southern California Pain & Wellness Center is committed to the comprehensive and integrated treatment of chronic spine diseases.

The evaluation process involves a consultation with both a pain specialist and one of our psychologists.

A program of education, rehabilitation, behavioral management and medication management follows this evaluation.

In some cases, we may recommend participation in the Functional Restoration Program (FRP). In other cases, we may recommend the use of interventional therapies or special spinal implants.

Acute Spine Care

The acute onset of pain from either the lower back or neck can be such a disabling problem so common that it creates a tremendous impact on our society. Patients sometimes experience pain and numbness radiating into an arm or a leg at the same time they suffer from axial spine pain. Muscle spasms can also occur. These effects can result in the abrupt loss of an individual's ability to work, exercise and perform daily activities. It is one of the major causes of missed work in the United States. Spine related conditions also account for a substantial proportion of health care spending.

The Southern California Pain & Wellness Center physicians and staff provide the expertise to ensure the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of acute spine conditioins. Our goal is to provide treatment to help restore function and activity in the early stages of the injury. Studies show that prolonged rest and inactivity usually result in worsening the effects of most spine injuries.

The  Southern California Pain & Wellness Center physician will be able to direct  physical rehabilitation while managing pain symptoms order to optimize your prompt recovery. This may involve prescribing appropriate pain medications and performing interventional procedures to address the pain symptoms and get you back on your feet. Our physicians are highly trained in performing special injections and procedures for the neck, mid back, and lower back to help relieve inflammation, irritation and spasms that may be contributing to your pain.
